Setting a new standard for commercial vehicle inspection facilities across the state, WMH supported the design and construction of the eastbound Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CCVEF), completed in 2015, and was then selected to lead environmental re-evaluation, final design, and construction support for the new westbound CCVEF facility.
The project replaces outdated 1958 truck scales with a modern, 24/7 facility on I-80 designed to inspect up to 1,000 trucks per hour, improving freight efficiency and safety. Led by STA with Caltrans and CHP, construction is anticipated to be complete in 2029.
WMH's Role: Environmental Re-evaluation, Final Design, and Construction Support
Key Features: 7 inspection bays, weight-in-motion scales, extended off-ramp from I-80, braided on-ramps to I-80 and Route 12, 2 bridges and retaining walls, state-of-the-art sorting technology.
Awards: California Transportation Foundation's 'Safety Project of the Year' and 'Best of ITS America'.
