WMH staff braved the rain and celebrated Alameda County Transportation Commission's ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $244M State Route 84 Expressway Modernization & State Route 84/I 680 Interchange Improvement Project. It was exciting to see our design finally hit the road!
As prime consultant, WMH led the Environmental Reevaluation (PA/ED), PS&E, and Design Services During Construction phases. This regionally significant project completes SR 84 as an expressway connecting I 680 and I 580. The project also included major improvements to the SR 84/I 680 interchange (ramps, connections); extended the southbound I 680 express/HOV lane northward by approximately 2 miles; completed bike lane connectivity along SR 84; added wildlife crossing passageways; and delivered a broad array of safety improvements.
WMH Project Manager Tim Lee, who led a multidisciplinary team through each phase of the project, said, “After years of planning and collaboration since 2018, it’s incredibly rewarding for our team to see this vision become reality. We are excited to see our collaborative efforts with Alameda CTC and stakeholders come to life and benefit the community." Even with dicey weather, the turnout was fantastic — Huge congratulations to the lead agency Alameda CTC, the project partners, and everyone on the team who turned vision into reality!
